Explore the spooky side of air and space at Air & Scare, our annual Halloween event at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va. Participate in creepy crafts, spooky science experiments, and other Halloween-themed activities. Arrive in costume to get into the Halloween spirit and enjoy safe indoor trick-or-treating.
Air & Scare is one of our most popular annual events. Please be aware of high-volume attendance and construction in our parking area and allow for additional time for parking and security screening.
To expedite your arrival process, we recommend the following:
Pay in cash, and have your money ready when you pull up to the parking booth. Exact change is preferable. Credit cards will be accepted.
Carpool with other families also attending the Air & Scare event.
Consider parking at the Herndon-Monroe Park & Ride and taking Fairfax Connector Route 983 to the Udvar-Hazy Center. Parking at the Herndon-Monroe Park & Ride is free. Bus fares are $1.75 each way and can be paid with SmarTrip card or cash. Buses run approximately every 20 minutes, with stops at the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station, the Herndon-Monroe Park & Ride, and Washington Dulles International Airport.
There’s something for everyone at Air & Scare. Highlights include:
Participate in creepy crafts and Halloween-themed activities located throughout the Udvar-Hazy Center. Annual favorites include the Robotic Zone, Trick or Trajectory, and Crazy Science.
Take part in spooky science experiments, including Halloween Principles of Flight and Robots and Mazes.
Trick-or-Truth Information Stations
What really went on at Area 51? Is it true that there is an alien ship in the Museum’s collection? Learn the answers to these and many more haunting questions.
Free candy and other goodies will be distributed at treat stations located throughout the building.
Designed for ages two to six, the Tot Zone caters to the tiniest visitors, who will enjoy playing dress-up and participating in space-themed activities.
Teen and Tween Zone
Test your skills at the Paper Scare Plane design challenge and Trick or Trajectory Launch or try your hand at making a Hallo-copter.
Take a Giant Leap Puppet Show
Rainbow Productions, Inc. will perform at 11:00 am, 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm, and 3:30 pm
Flights of Fancy Story Time
Enjoy readings of Space Spinners by Suse MacDonald and participate in the Anita the Spider hands-on activity.
Take a photo with costumed Star Wars and Ghostbusters characters as well as a 21-foot tall Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
Free Cartoon Showings
Free showings of Halloween-themed Looney Toons Cartoons will take place at 12:00, 2:30, and 4:05 pm. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis 40 minutes before each show.
Fairfax County Park Authority
Participate in Make a Witch’s Broom, Bat Facts, and Make a Comet hands-on activities with the Fairfax County Park Authority and Frying Pan Farm Park.
Fire Safety Home Escape Simulation Course
Learn about fire safety with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA).
