Come to Fashion Court, on the lower level outside of Nordstrom, on Saturday, February 17th from 11am-1pm and enjoy cultural performances, tea sampling from MeiMei Fine Teas and participate in arts and crafts that celebrate the Year of the Dog, while having fun with the whole family!
Cultural demonstrations and performances will be showcased from 11am-1pm by The Jow Ga Shaolin Institute.
The Jow Ga Shaolin Institute promotes the study of authentic Chinese martial arts for health, fitness, emotional well-being and self-defense.
The Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe is a non-profit, amateur group, dedicated to sharing art & culture and the promotion of cross-cultural understanding. Dancers
consist of all ages from the Greater Washington Metropolitan area. Members of the Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe have developed a diverse circle of audiences, dazzling audiences locally and abroad. Annually they perform for various arts & cultural celebrations across the region.
MeiMei Fine Teas is a Fairfax-based local company specializing in Chinese specialty tea. The company’s mission is to source the finest Chinese teas directly from local growers in China’s historical tea mountains, and to promote Chinese culture and an holistic and authentic tea experience.
Chinese language teachers from the Confucius Institute at George Mason University, a Chinese cultural and language education center in Fairfax, will lead a papercutting workshop teaching you how to create these easy-to-make paper cut designs and can even teach you some simple Chinese phrases. All materials will be provided for you to make traditional Chinese papercuts that you can take home to friends and family.”
Shoppers can also enjoy traditional Chinese music while at Tysons Corenr Center in the Spring House in the Greencbrier Concierge Lounge, located outside of Macy’s on the lower level. Performers from China, Wei Xiao and Chuxin Liao, will
play famous works of Chinese traditional music. Using the Chinese stringed
zither called guzheng and the violin, they will present a performance of
East-West cultural integration. The artists are pursuing advanced studies at
George Mason University.
