The City’s Housing and Human Services department is accepting applications for two U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grants: Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program. The funds are available to public agencies and nonprofit organizations to assist City residents with low and moderate incomes.
These funds may be used for housing development, rental assistance, social services, economic development, and public services during FY 2019 – 2020. Funded projects in the past have included home repair, rental assistance to prevent homelessness, rehabilitation of a housing development, and more. The City is always interested in receiving input from residents, advisory groups, civic and service organizations, and business’s regarding the use of CDBG/HOME funds. To accomplish this goal, the City of Falls Church will hold two public hearings on the FY 2019-2020 proposals in October. The City Council is scheduled to approve the final grant awards in November.
CDBG is an annual grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to assist communities like Falls Church to provide activities and services to benefit the City of Falls Church and households with low-and moderate incomes. This year the City will receive approximately $50,000 of CDBG funds through an agreement with Arlington County. The grant will fund activities such as public services, housing rehabilitation, homebuyer assistance, and economic development. These funds are awarded through a competitive process to eligible public agencies and nonprofit organizations and must be used to benefit households with low-and moderate-incomes.
HOME is an annual grant from HUD that assists the City to carry out a variety of housing activities. The City will receive approximately $20,000 through an agreement with Arlington County and will use this grant to provide funding to public agencies and nonprofit organizations for rental assistance to income eligible households, including City residents and persons working in the City.
