Dear friends, parents, teachers, Anh Chị Em, teaching assistants and all VYEA students.
The VYEA opens its 43rd consecutive Viet Summer School, offering 16 Viet language and SAT preparation classes at Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia.
On line registration is now open at https://vyea.com. Please register early to ensure a seat in the appropriate class. Students can still register after June 15 but will need to pay a late fee.
To preserve a culture, we need to speak, and to read and write the language. The role of parents is essential to the mission of sustaining the mother tongue and preserving the Viet culture in our children in the overseas. It would be a mission impossible without your effort, from family, community, society.
At present, in the transition from one generation to the next, our Viet language in the overseas is undoubtedly falling out of use. Against this difficult tide, we need to join hands. In addition to encouraging your children to attend the VYEA summer school, please consider volunteering as a teacher or to provide support in many other VYEA activities.
No effort will be too small to help VYEA in its mission: To teach the Viet language, to promulgate Viet culture in American society, and to strengthen traditional values, through many activities benefiting our children.
For many years, VYEA has been selected to receive you generous contributions through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), which in
fact accounted for almost a quarter of VYEA’s budget. However, due to a one-time technical reason, we did not get listed in the CFC for the year 2019. For this summer, we will need to count on your continued support through our web site link
https://vyea.com/web/2019/codes/DonationStep1.php. CFC 2020 will again see VYEA listed.
For VYEA 2019, we have published a set of videos for use on a mobile phone to drill the basic set of 581-word-vocabulary that covers the six grades for VYEA students. These videos will likely to be also useful to adults, to review the meaning and/or standard pronunciations of these Viet words. https://vyea.com/vvv.php.
In salutation of VYEA 2019, we present a commenorative group-picture of some 250 VYEA benefactors, teachers, Anh Chi Em, which can be seen here at https://vyea.smugmug.com.
Please know that we greatly appreciate the continued trust that you have placed in VYEA. Please continue to spread the words and lend a hand.
We look forward to seeing you at the VYEA Viet Summer School at Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, VA. The first day of school is Monday June 24, 2019.
Very Respectfully,
The Vietnamese Youth Educational Association of Washington (VYEA)
